Mike’s Quick Answer
A client can help a personal injury case move faster by responding promptly, providing complete information, signing necessary authorizations after review, attending appointments and legal events, keeping contact information current, and telling the lawyer about important changes before they become surprises. That will not control the court, defense, experts, medical recovery, or insurance carrier. It does remove avoidable delay on the client’s side. Fast should not mean rushed. The goal is to keep each necessary step ready when its turn arrives without settling before the case can be evaluated responsibly.
Complete Information Prevents Repeated Requests
Give the firm accurate names, addresses, policy information, employers, providers, prior claims, and contact details. If something is unknown, say so and help identify where it can be found.
A partial list can send the firm through several rounds of records requests and discovery amendments. Honest completeness at the beginning is often the biggest time saver.
Respond While the Request Is Still Manageable
Discovery, forms, settlement documents, scheduling, and court deadlines do not improve in a pile. Read firm messages and respond within the requested time, even if the response is that you need help or more time.
Do not sign a document you do not understand merely to be quick. Ask the question promptly so the issue can be resolved before the deadline.
Keep the Lawyer Updated on Material Changes
Report a new address, phone, job, medical development, insurance denial, accident, bankruptcy, criminal charge, public post, death in the family affecting availability, or extended travel. Some changes require formal notice or strategy adjustment.
A lawyer who learns about surgery during mediation or a move after mail is returned has to stop and repair the record. Early updates let the case keep moving.
Be Available for the Events Only You Can Attend
The lawyer cannot give your deposition, attend your defense examination, verify your interrogatories, or make your settlement decision. Reserve dates, arrive prepared, and tell the firm immediately about a real conflict.
I keep clients informed about the next material step and what I need from them. A clear division of responsibility reduces delay without turning the client into a file manager.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I call every day to move the case faster?
Frequent calls do not change court or carrier deadlines. Use agreed update channels and respond quickly when the firm needs information or a decision.
Can I ask the lawyer to accept the first offer?
You control settlement, but first understand the medical picture, release, liens, net amount, coverage, and risks. Speed should be an informed choice.
Why does the firm need old claim information?
Prior events may affect discovery and causation. Early disclosure lets the lawyer obtain and explain them before the defense creates delay or surprise.
